Bhubaneswar: Truck Drags Car for 500 Metres on Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Highway, Driver Arrested (X)
Bhubaneswar: People were left with goosebumps after seeing what happened in the capital of Odisha on Saturday. A truck dragged the car for about 500 meters near Hi-Tech Square on the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Highway. The people sitting inside the car kept screaming. Sparks kept flying on the road. Hearing the noise, people came out of their houses and somehow got the truck stopped. There was a commotion on the spot. Mancheshwar Police immediately caught the truck driver.
Eyewitnesses say that both the car and the truck were going towards Cuttack. There was a sudden collision. People thought that the driver would now hit the brakes. But instead of stopping, the truck continued moving forward at speed. The car got badly stuck in the front part of the truck. A loud sound of scraping iron started coming on the road. People tried to stop the driver by shouting and giving hands. But the truck stopped half a kilometer away.
As soon as the news of the accident was received, the family members of the car riders reached there. He clearly said that this is not an accident. They allege that the driver knew that the car was stuck below. Still he did not stop the truck intentionally. “If people had not come on the streets, our children would not have survived,” said a family member angrily. The family members have demanded the police register a case of attempted murder against the driver.
Police officers say that at first glance it seems that the driver was scared after the collision. During interrogation, the driver also said that he was nervous. His medical was done. The matter of drinking alcohol turned out to be wrong. Nothing was found in the alcohol test. Now the police's entire focus is on CCTV and road evidence.
The cameras installed on the highway are being checked. Police hope that the video will make it clear what the driver was at fault. Did he really keep driving the truck out of fear? Or did he know and still didn't stop? The footage will answer these questions. Cameras of nearby shops are also being checked.
Accidents involving big trucks on the National Highway are not stopping. This incident again raised the same old question. Who will decide the responsibility of the driver after an accident? Can one get away with just saying "I was nervous"? At present the police are investigating from every angle. Only after the report comes will it be known whether it was just an accident or there is some other story behind it. The condition of the car riders is said to be out of danger. But he is unable to forget that scene.
